Western Massachusetts’ milder than usual winter will benefit construction schedules early in the year.
The new Dunkin’ on Hampden Street in Holyoke could be completed four months ahead of schedule, according to the construction company foreman.
Holyoke’s building commissioner Damian Cote told 22News, how mild winters without snow on the ground accelerates construction schedules and helps save money.
“Most of the people that have the bigger projects have been able to go along faster, and it’s less expensive to heat concrete. They don’t have to do any of the preparatory work to clear the space before they get to work in the day,” said Cote.
If the mild weather continues, the contractor hopes to get any early start on the two additional buildings as part of the Hampden Street retail complex.
