Two people killed in Sheffield house fire

SHEFFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Two people died in a house fire in Sheffield Wednesday morning.

According to the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office, crews from Sheffield, Great Barrington, Egremont, New Marlboro, and Caanan, Connecticut Fire Departments were called to a fire at 1715 Hewins Street at around 5:49 a.m.

The remains of two adults were found inside the home, preliminary evidence does not indicate that the fire is suspicious.

The fire is being investigated by the Sheffield Police Department, and State Police assigned to both the Office of the State Fire Marshal and the Office of the Berkshire District Attorney.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated and the identities of the two people who died have not been released yet.
