SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield Mayor Sarno said Big Y Express is coming downtown.
Big Y has announced plans to build a new idea, Big Y Express Fresh Market. This new plan will be at 1500 Main Street.
According to Mayor Sarno, it will replace the old CVS at Tower Square. Currently, there are not any major grocery store chains in the downtown area. Sarno said this announcement comes as several market-rate apartments are being built, including the old Court Square Hotel project.
The store will provide many options for its customers including pre-made meals and sandwiches but also specialties such as organic food and fresh sushi. Customers can rely on Big Y Express to accommodate them with everyday necessities.
“People want to shop downtown. They want to get their groceries and stuff. So we put it together. Everybody’s on board. It will be in the Tower Square area,” said Mayor Sarno.
According to Colin D’Amour, Senior Director of Big Y Express, “We are excited to bring an entirely new concept to downtown Springfield. We know that there has been an appetite for Big Y’s fresh and local foods for many years now. We are confident that customers will enjoy our many offerings. We are working diligently with our contractors to establish a timeline for opening and are excited to be a part of the downtown community.
