Enfield exit reopened after gas spill caused week long closure

Local News

The Exit 49 off ramp on I-91 South is now reopened.

The ramp re-opened around 2:00 Sunday afternoon. It was closed for almost a week after  a gasoline tanker rollover on Monday.

The tanker rollover dumped thousands of gallons of gasoline off of Exit 49 in Enfield causing several families in the residential neighborhood to evacuate.

Laura McMordie, a manager at a local Commonwealth Kitchen and Bar, who commutes from Southwick  told 22News she had a much easier ride into work this afternoon, “With the ramp being down it was definitely like a 10 minute delay to get to work coming from Southwick so the ramp being open is definitely way more helpful.”

The oil spill clean up cost the trucking company more than $500,000.
