Five people were seriously injured in an ambulance rollover crash on I-91 North in Whately Wednesday morning.

Massachusetts State Police Lt. Tom Ryan told 22News the accident happened at 9 a.m. on I-91 North just before Exit 23 in Whately.

Ryan said a 20-year-old woman was traveling in an ambulance when for reasons still under investigation, the driver entered the median.

The driver then overcorrected, causing the ambulance to rollover and come to rest in the breakdown lane.

All five people in the ambulance were taken to Baystate Medical Center to be treated for serious injuries.

Ryan said the cause of the crash is under investigation, and no charges have been filed at this time.
