Annual Out of Darkness Walk honors those who lost their lives to suicide

Franklin County

Hundreds of western Massachusetts residents spent their Saturday in Franklin County honoring those who lost their lives to suicide.

The annual Out of Darkness Walk was held at Energy Park in Greenfield Saturday in memory of loved ones who took their own lives.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention created the event, which brings out a large crowd each year.

Volunteer Nancy Powell told 22News, the key to suicide prevention, is showing support.

“There are so many other people struggling and dealing with loss every single day within themselves or within their families,” Powell said. “I just want to let them know that there are people out there that can support them and suicide is not the way.”

All proceeds from the walk go towards suicide prevention and support for those with mental illnesses.
