A man is in the hospital after a collision between a car and bicyclist in Gill Saturday.
According to Northwestern District Attorney Spokesperson Mary Carey, the accident happened just before 4 p.m. at the intersection of Main Road and Route 2.
Carey said the cyclist, a 57-year-old man visiting the area was riding his bike southbound on Main Street when he was hit by a car turning left onto Route 2 westbound.
According to the Gill police department, the cyclist was air lifted to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield with serious injuries.
Route 2 was closed for three hours while police investigated.
Carey said based on preliminary information that was gathered, the driver of the car, a 23-year-old Montague man was issued a motor vehicle citation.
The citation was for negligent operation, failure to yield, and unlicensed operation.
The incident remains under investigation by Gill Police, Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office and the MSP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
