Buckland considering ban on disposable plastic products

Franklin County

The town of Buckland is considering a ban on disposable plastic products.

One Buckland town leader wants to take the ban on single-use plastic bags a step further. Buckland Selectboard Chairman Zachary Turner is proposing an enhanced plastics ban.

Turner wants to protect the environment from plastic products that never bio-degrade. His proposal would prohibit all petroleum-based plastics, including straws, plates, and cutlery. Turner said there are plenty of alternatives.

Turner wants Buckland to help alleviate some of the negative impacts plastic has on the environment, including wildlife and bodies of water.

Buckland voters will likely decide whether to ban single-use plastic bags, sometime in May.

If it passes, Turner told 22News, he believes the transition should be seamless.
