The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has issued a $118,000 penalty on Eversource Energy for environmental violations in Franklin County.
The penalty’s connected to work on Eversource’s electrical distribution system in Northfield, Rowe, and Ashfield.
MassDEP said the work was conducted without the required permits. Saying it was not exempt maintenance work under the Wetlands Protection Act.
Eversource must pay a penalty and conduct an environmentally beneficial project totaling almost $118,000.
The voluntary agreement requires that Eversource restore and reduce the impacts that resulted from the un-permitted changes.
They’re also required to look back at all western Massachusetts projects since the end of 2014 to determine if they required permits, and to propose plans for any impacts.
