Franklin County residents training to become recovery coaches

The Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery Coach Academy gives people the skills necessary to help people struggling with substance abuse.

The CCAR Recovery Coach Academy is being held Monday to Friday this week at the Greenfield Community College Downtown Campus Center on Main Street in Greenfield.

The academy provides trainees with the skills needed to guide, mentor and support individuals trying to recover from drug or alcohol addiction.

“This is a transformational experience to be part of this,” said Laura Sarage, lead facilitator at the academy. “When you come in on Monday you aren’t the same person on Friday when you leave and so what people take away is just a broader understanding of recovery.”

Sarage added that Franklin County has a significant need for recovery coaches due to the opioid crisis impact on this region. People who complete the academy training also need 30 hours of supervised training with a recovering addict.
