Greenfield High School held off a late fourth-quarter comeback to upset Turners Falls on Thanksgiving.
Thursday’s Greenfield-Turners Falls high school football game began at 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning at Greenfield High School.
Fans for both schools came out to support their teams, despite brutally cold 20 degree temperatures. Greenfield and Turners have played each other on Thanksgiving every year since 1927.
“The teams have been playing a long time against each other. There is a lot of support in the community for the rivalry,” said Parker Brown of Greenfield. “A lot of the people come to the games, even when its cold like this. Cold and windy out.
Thursday’s game came down to the final two minutes. Turners Falls was unable to convert a 2 point conversion with less than 2 minutes to go in the fourth quarter, giving Greenfield High School the 40-38 win.
With Thursday’s victory, Greenfield improves to 6-4 on the year, while Turners Falls drops to 8-3.
The Green Wave have now won two straight Thanksgiving football games against the Thunder.
