Mohawk Trail Regional High School considering changing school mascot

Franklin County

The Mohawk Trail Regional School Warriors’ mascot has become problematic.

Considering local efforts like those at Turners Falls High School to remove Native American imagery, Mohawk Trail Regional High School’s council is tackling the same debate.

Mohawk Trail Regional High School Co-Principal Marisa Mendonsa told 22News that over the past three or four years, Mohawk has moved away from the use of the ‘chief’ logo to Mohawk’s ‘M.’

Mohawk has led a community conversation to reimagine the high school’s mascot.

Mendosa told 22News the mascot still exists in some locations across campus, but that Mohawk will take the appropriate steps to update the logo with the Mohawk ‘M’ in those locations.

We were unable to go inside the school to see where the mascot still appears, but we will continue to cover this story as Mohawk works to find a solution.
