Greenfield is making room for a new parking garage in its downtown.
Crews have been working on the foundation, and will begin construction on the parking garage next week. Residents are anxious to see it completed. They say it’s much needed.
“It’s very very difficult to find parking spaces out here. You’ll be driving around a long time trying to find parking spots and real good ones at that. This is going to mean a lot to this town, I’m telling you,” said Greenfield resident Jamal Bouchard.
The four-floor parking garage on Olive Street will have 272 parking spaces when its finished being built. The city said the new parking garage is all part of its effort to revitalize the downtown.
Greenfield City Engineer Nicolas Reitzel told 22News Olive Street will be closed from Monday to Thursday next week, to allow construction crews to move heavy concrete panels safely over to the site.
Reitzel said the Olive Street closure will ensure pedestrian safety, and will help speed up the construction project.
Greenfield’s municipal parking garage is expected to be finished by the end of October.
