Pedestrian killed in crash on Route 2 in Shelburne; Northampton man charged

SHELBURNE FALLS, Mass. (WWLP) – A woman died after being struck by a vehicle on Route 2 in Shelburne Falls Tuesday morning, and a Northampton man is facing criminal charges in connection to the crash.

Northwestern District Attorney spokesperson Laurie Loisel told 22News the victim, a 45 year-old from Shelburne Falls, was walking along the road with a companion, when she was struck at around 6:30 A.M.

The victim, whose identity has not yet been revealed, died at the crash site.

Loisel said that police arrested a 51 year-old man from Northampton in connection to the crash. Additional information, including the suspect’s name and specific charges, was not immediately available. He is expected to be arraigned in Greenfield District Court.

According to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), both sides of Route 2 was closed near mile marker 38.2 after the crash. The roadway re-opened before noontime.
