There are two proposals to open marijuana cultivation farms in Whately.
Bloom Market Garden Inc and Urban Grown are interested in opening marijuana farms on the same street in Whately, but both still need the town’s and state’s approval.
The Whately selectboard discussed Bloom Market Garden’s proposed marijuana farm at their meeting September 12th. Whately town administrator Brian Domina told 22News Bloom Market Garden is interested in opening a marijuana growing facility at 62 Christian Lane.
Domina said Urban Grown is also interested in opening a cultivation farm right down the road at 149 Christian Lane.
Ronnie Williams of Whately is concerned about lighting and security at these potential marijuana farms. “Questions were about lighting and security, because we don’t want lights on all night, and bright lights, because we like it being dark. We have no streetlights here.”
Domina told 22News the town has signed a community host agreement with Urban Grown, but not yet with Bloom Market Garden.
He said both companies would need to receive a special permit through the zoning board of appeals and a state license to grow marijuana in Whately.
There are currently no marijuana farms or dispensaries in Whately.
