Franklin County drivers will soon have new limitations on travel between Greenfield and Turners Falls.
Starting next week, the 82-year-old White Bridge will be closed so crews can make some needed repairs.
It’s one of three bridges that connect the two Franklin County communities.
MassDOT spokesman Patrick Marvin told 22News the White Bridge will be closed next Monday until early July to allow crews to repair the bridge deck, sidewalks, and bridge rails.
The bridge is already down to one lane of traffic this week so crews could begin some of those repairs.
Mike Browsky of Montague told 22News, “The bridges around here are in really bad shape. There are holes, you can see right down through into the river. Its about time they do something, its really unsafe. Everyday we see cars broken down on the side of the road because of it so its a good thing to get it fixed.”
Drivers will be able to take the GIll-Montague Bridge on Avenue A or the General Pierce Bridge to get to Turners Falls or Greenfield while the White Bridge is closed.
Montague Town Planner Walter Ramsey told 22News the state wanted to make repairs to the White Bridge before they begin construction on the General Pierce Bridge in 2020.
