A significant development is coming to western Massachusetts that is expected to have a positive economic impact.
Congressmen Richard Neal and James McGovern have announced a nearly $11 million grant to upgrade the main line of the New England Central Railroad through western Massachusetts.
Palmer Town Manager Charles Blanchard told 22News the rail line improvement will have Palmer playing a critical role.
“They bring products by rail and then ship it out all over the northeast through trucking. So it’s really a big hub. Palmer is very reliant on rail service transportation to get their products out,” said Blanchard.
The $10.8 million in New England Central Railroad improvements will include 31 miles of new rail, and the strengthening of 20 bridges.
