Hampden County

The mother and missing baby being sought by Massachusetts State Police have been located and turned over to the Department of Children and Families.

According to Massachusetts State Police, a member of 4-month-old Jacob Van Voorhis‘ family brought him to DCF in Worcester on Tuesday. He is unharmed.

Police were actively looking for his 15-year-old mother, Shantel Van Voorhis.

The car that was being sought by police in connection with the search was found in Springfield on Tuesday, at an address associated with her family.

Massachusetts State Police reported Jacob missing on Monday after they said Shantel took him from the DARE Family Services in Newburyport.

State police say Shantel is allowed to live with her baby at the DARE facility, but he is in legal custody of the Department of Children and Families.
