SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Two bald eagles, who recently underwent rehabilitation for permanent injuries, have found a new home in Springfield thanks to a West Springfield boy scout.
The Zoo in Forest Park & Education Center announced the opening of its newest eagle exhibit — and to formally thank the person who made it possible.
Eighteen-year-old Luke Dukette raised $11,000 for the new exhibit, which he chose as his Eagle Scout project. He told 22News, though it was his idea, he did receive a lot of help.
“It’s a pretty big project because of all the people who have supported the project and who have come and helped out the day of construction,” Dukette said. “I’ve had people who have come from New Jersey and family and friends coming from all over just to help and see this be put up.”
Both bald eagles arrived from the Alaska Raptor Center this winter and are not able to survive in the wild.
