2 Ludlow residents, dog without a home after fire on Whitney St.

Hampden County

Two people and a dog are without a home after a house fire closed part of Whitney Street in Ludlow Tuesday night.

Both Ludlow Police and Fire Department confirmed with 22News that the fire at a single-family home at 141 Whitney Street was called in a little after 9 p.m.

Captain Ricky Machado of the Ludlow Fire Department said no injuries were reported. He explained that the fire, which started on the porch, extended to the roof causing it to spread out. It was caused by improper disposal of burning materials.

When fire officials got to the location, they found the porch entrance of the house in flames.

Capt. Machado added that the Springfield and Wilbraham fire departments helped control the fire. It was a “good stop” Capt. Machado said.

At the time of the fire. Sgt. Knox of the Ludlow Police Department said Whitney Street was closed at Howard and Hubbard Streets.

The streets have since reopened.
