28th Ambassador Award given at the Holyoke Elks Lodge

Recognition for a professor who’s helped foster a connection between the Republic of Ireland and America.

The St. Patrick’s Committee of Holyoke announced the recipient of the 28th Ambassador Award at the Holyoke Elks Lodge. 

Dr. Christopher Fox, co-founder of the Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies was named this year’s winner. The Ambassador Award is presented each year to a person or organization that has worked to promote the relationship between the people of the Republic of Ireland and the people of the United States.

Michael Moriarty told 22News, “The connection to the Republic of Ireland and the fact that this is a living current relationship that we further in the Valley is a very important part of what the Holyoke St. Patrick’s Parade is about.”

Dr. Fox is a professor at Notre Dame University in Indiana. He served as executive producer of the landmark documentary “1916 The Irish Rebellion.” 

The film has been shown in over sixty countries and won major awards.
