Four people and a dog are without a home while one firefighter is recovering at the hospital after a three-alarm fire on Pequot Point Road Thursday afternoon.
Westfield Deputy Fire Chief Andrew Hart told 22News the firefighter was overcome by heat and was taken to Baystate Noble Hospital for treatment.
The firefighter, whose name has not been released, is expected to be okay.
Deputy Fire Chief Hart told 22News the house on Pequot Point Rd. is a total loss.
“The first engine company found heavy fire venting from the rear of the building,” Deputy Fire Chief Hart said. “All of the occupants were out at the time. It’s considered a total loss.”
West Springfield and Holyoke fire departments assisted with mutual aid.
