Families stood in line outside the North End social service agency “Gray House” Monday morning and, one by one, they gratefully received their 20-pound Thanksgiving turkeys.
Ernesto Santos Luna of Springfield told 22News, “I feel happy, a great occasion when people can get something for their Thanksgiving dinner.”
“I feel very happy because people can get the turkey, we bless the house that’s giving us turkey,” said Lydia Santiago of Springfield.
There was a turkey for each of the 600 families who requested one.
250 turkeys were donated by the Springfield law firm of Pellegrini, Seeley, Ryan and Blakesley. Members of the law firm distributed the turkeys and helped carry them to the cars.
“It’s a great feeling, obviously Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. These people are here, they’re in need, we’re part of the community. and it feels wonderful to have them have a Thanksgiving the way I will with my family,” said attorney Earl Seeley.
Gray House has been helping North End families in need put food on their table since 1982.
