83-year-old man killed after West Springfield pedestrian accident

An 83-year-year old man was killed Saturday morning after being struck by a car on Riverdale Street in West Springfield.

West Springfield Police Sgt. Michael Reed told 22News police were called to the area of 1290 Riverdale Street at 8:45 a.m. Saturday morning for a report of a pedestrian accident.

The 83-year-old man was struck by a car and died from his injuries.

Our 22News crew shot video of the incident around 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning. 

We spotted a maroon PT cruiser with a smashed windshield and a dent on the hood of the car.

An accident reconstruction team was at the site of the crash and police were still in the process of interviewing witnesses as of 3 p.m.

A section of the road was blocked off for several hours Saturday morning and re-opened just before noon.

Sgt. Reed said the driver of the car is cooperating with police.
