SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The 22nd annual 94.7 WMAS Radiothon for Baystate Children’s Hospital is back and in person. The annual broadcast event makes a big difference in the lives of pediatric patients here in the Pioneer Valley.

On Tuesday morning, operators were standing by ready to receive donations over the phone for the radiothon. For the next two days, listeners will hear inspiring stories from patients, families, and medical team members who care for pediatric patients.

“Taking care of children is a special gift and we always want our kids to have the best and the nicest experience that they possibly can especially when they are not feeling well. And so events like our radio thon every year snide that that can happen,” said Kathy Tobin, Director of Annual Giving and Events at the Baystate Health Foundation.

All of the money raised will stay right here in western Massachusetts. The fundraiser will run Tuesday and Wednesday from 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.

WMAS Radio Host Chris Kellogg told 22News, “One hundred percent of the money goes towards life saving research and it goes towards making kids more comfortable in the hospital. To make sure doctors gave the right tools so the experience at Baystate Hospital is a bit better. And some of the stuff that people donate to are things like kids pediatric wheelchairs which make it fun for the kids to cruise around the hospital.”

Allisa Duffany, a Baystate Children’s Hospital family member shared her story, “He’s been in and out of Baystate Children’s Hospital and they have really saved his life. They are fast acting, they had the equipment that they needed to save his life, they had the units that they needed to admit him.”
