AAA of West Springfield employee, Meg Martin, is attending nursing school to make a career change. Her schooling helped save an elderly woman’s life last week.
Meg, along with her supervisor Joyce Beaulieu, were put to the test last Thursday when a 71-year-old woman collapsed at the front door of the AAA Pioneer Valley in West Springfield.
Meg, Joyce and an off duty firefighter used CPR until the fire department’s rescue team arrived.
Meg told 22News she’s proud of her performance under pressure, “I am so glad I didn’t panic. I knew what I had to do, focused on keeping her alive. That’s about all I could think about to keep her heart pumping.”
The elderly woman is recovering from the incident.
Since then, AAA has ordered defibrillators for each of its five nearby centers in Massachusetts and Connecticut.
Meg will be taking her end of semester test this Friday. After last week’s incident, she’s confident she’ll pass.
