Dozens of activists gathered outside of Congressman Richard Neal’s Springfield office Tuesday to encourage him to support the Green New Deal.
The non-binding resolution from Senator Ed Markey and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez calls for severely limiting sources of air pollution.
The plan is to shift the U.S. economy away from fossil fuels, such as oil and coal, and replace them with renewable sources such as wind and solar power.
Neal is the sole member of the Massachusetts Congressional Delegation who has not co-sponsored the resolution.
Audrey Lin of Watertown told 22News, “He has been a climate ally for many years, and we really do believe that this Green New Deal resolution is in line with his values.”
With Neal’s support, Massachusetts would become the first state to have the approval of its entire congressional delegation.
