Agawam Fire Department honors lives lost on 9/11

Hampden County

AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – Dozens gathered in Agawam Wednesday morning to honor the victims of September 11, 2001.

Fire Chief Alan Sirois, Fire Department Chaplain, Father Bill Hamilton, the Reverand Tim Reed, and Mayor William Sapelli delivered tributes and remembrances.

Chief Sirois told 22News it was more than just police and firefighters who answered the call on that day 18-years-ago.

“The most important thing we should all remember is the heroic acts of not just the first responders on that day, but civilians who simply stood up and took action to help people around them when they were needed,” said Chief Sirois.

Eighteen-years-later, we remember those heroes, both in and out of uniform.

Speakers at the ceremony:

  • Agawam Fire Chief Alan Sirois
  • Father Bill Hamilton, Agawam Fire Department Chaplain
  • Reverend Tim Reed, Executive Pastor, Bethany Assembly of God
  • The Honorable William Sapelli, Mayor, Town of Agawam
