Agawam police determined social media school threat was a hoax

Hampden County

AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – Agawam police officers will be at Agawam Junior High School on Friday out of “an abundance of caution” following an investigation into a threat made on social media.

According to a post on the Agawam Police Department Facebook page, a 13-year-old reported a message to police Thursday night that was posted on social media saying “I’m going to shoot up the school tomorrow.”

Agawam police detectives worked with Massachusetts State Police to investigate the threat, and determined it did not come from a local source. Agawam police said it was not credible, and there was no specific threat to any of the schools in town.

“All threats of this nature will be investigated thoroughly to ensure the safety of all students in Agawam,” police said in the Facebook post.
