AIC criminal justice students participate in mock trial

Hampden County

American International College students received a realistic lesson in criminal justice Tuesday.

Springfield District Court Judge John Payne presided at a mock trial on the AIC campus. AIC criminal justice students stood in as defendants in the case presented as realistically as possible.

All of the prosecution and court staff including Judge Payne are AIC graduates. They helped the students get a clear picture of criminal justice at work.

AIC criminal justice professor Jill McCarthy Payne put this lesson together. She told 22News, “I want them to be excited about it, how it’s done, there are people that sat in their places just a few years ago, a couple of decades ago.”

AIC’s Law and Order Society is also known as the “Cop Club” endorsed the mini mock trial as a practical means of furthering the education of the school’s criminal justice students who all attended this trial.
