AIC Hockey wins Game 1 of Atlantic Hockey Quarterfinals

Hampden County

Celebrations continue for AIC men’s ice hockey team who made history over the weekend.

The Yellow Jackets won their first ever regular season Atlantic Hockey Championship and Friday night playoffs against the Army West Point began at the Mass Mutual Center.

But before the puck dropped on the ice, a block party was held Friday night in downtown Springfield.

Fans celebrated with music, food, and drinks on the Mass Mutual concourse before the game. One fan told 22News he’s excited for the Yellow Jackets to be champions again.

“Yeah it should be a big win for them,” said Stephen Sutton. “They’re coming back from being defeated for so long and it’s pretty exciting for these guys to be on top again.”

It was a shutout against West Point Friday night. The Yellow Jackets won 4-0 against the Army.

AIC now leads the series 1-0.

Game 2 of the series is Saturday, March 16 at 7:05 p.m.
