AIC provides hot meals for the homeless at South Congregational Church

Hampden County

A local college provided hot meals for those in need during Thursday’s brutally cold weather.

American International College’s food and necessities pantry, or Rex’s Pantry prepared and served dinner at South Congregational Church in Springfield Thursday night.

AIC serves lunch or dinner at South Congregational Church once a month during the academic year.

Members of the AIC men’s rugby team helped serve Thursday night’s dinner.

“It was just great to be part of that and the experience,” said Darrin Fernandez. “Hearing people’s stories is very humbling and gives you a feeling that you don’t get from hitting someone on the rugby field.”

Rex’s Pantry was founded in late 2017 and is named after the AIC mascot.
