AIC Yellow Jackets celebrate great season at MGM Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – After a historic season, the AIC Yellow Jackets gathered to celebrate at MGM Springfield Monday night.

The team and some of their biggest supporters held an event at the Commonwealth Bar, commemorating their winning season, and their extended post-season in the NCAA tournament.

This was the first time the team made it to the tournament and they made it all the way to the regional final.

College Hockey News named Coach Eric Lang “Coach of the Year.”

Lang said most of the team is returning next year, and their run at the tournament will be an asset in recruiting.

“We were one of the lower teams or one of the worst teams in college hockey,” said Lang. “Fast forward to three years and for us to be able to have an event like we’re having here tonight, we were able to write a story not many teams are able to say they wrote. In Terms of the quality person and player that we’re able to reach right now, it’s pretty substantial.”

Though most of the team is returning, Lang said former team captain Shawn McBride is playing in the AHL with the Hartford Wolfpack.
