More than 100 people participated in a Santa & Elf Run in Springfield Saturday in support of childhood cancer.
Griffin’s Friends Children’s Cancer Fund hosted the event, which served as the official kick-off for the annual Griffin’s Friends Marathon Challenge. This year marks the 25th year of the marathon.
Runners met at Nathan Bill’s Restaurant in Springfield and ran to Forest Park dressed in colorful outfits.
“I like running for a mission. I like the people. I’ve developed great friendships here,” said Charlie Casartello of Griffen’s Friends. “We have a wonderful comradery that exists within our team.”
Griffin’s Friends is a volunteer group dedicated to providing support to children with cancer and other blood borne illnesses. It was founded in 1994.
