The City of Springfield proclaimed April as Donate Life Month during a celebration highlighting some local organ recipients on Monday.
It was an emotional morning at Springfield City Hall as organ donation recipients shared their personal stories of receiving an organ transplant.
Scott and Kimberlyn Meyer met each other while on the waiting list to receive new kidneys.
According to New England Donor Services, the rest is history. The two not only ended up receiving kidney transplants, they fell in love and got married!
“When you get that call, in minutes, your life is changed forever. We can go places where we don’t have to worry about dialysis centers or how much fluid we have to drink.We can live life to our fullest,” the couple said.
Kayleigh Sechi and Glen Wily also shared their organ donation stories during the celebration with Mayor Domenic Sarno and State Rep. Jose Tosado at Springfield City Hall.
According to New England Donor Services, 1,130 lives were saved in New England in 2017, “because of the generosity of individuals who became organ donors.”
