As warmer weather arrives, organizations remind parents of heat strokes

Hampden County

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – As we get closer to the summer months, organizations are reminding parents to check their kid’s car seats, and “look before you lock.”

Tuesday marks national heatstroke prevention day, and according to kids in cars.org, last year was the deadliest on record for child hot car deaths.

As the weather warms up, just a few minutes left in the car can be deadly for kids. Some parents said the placement of the car seat can help make sure you never forget.

“My son’s car seat is the one diagonally across from me, so I can always see him in the mirror, so I always know that he’s back there,” said Nivia Colon-Berrios of Chicopee.

Parents are encouraged to make a habit of checking their back seat every time they get out of the car, whether they have their kids with them or not, so they’re less likely to forget.
