Some friendly competition between law enforcement in Springfield Saturday.

Massachusetts State Police and members of the Springfield Police and Fire Departments competed in a Battle of the Badges softball tournament at Van Sickle Middle School Saturday afternoon.

The event began with a home run derby and was followed by several slow pitch softball games.
Springfield Police and Fire competed for “The Mayor’s Cup” while Springfield Police and State Police went head to head for the “Fallen Heroes Trophy.”

The family-friendly event also featured a bounce house, face painting, raffles and a “Dunk-A-Cop” dunking booth.

“You got the Springfield Fire Department, Mass State Police, Springfield Police all raising money for one or two causes,” Josh Dufresne told 22News. “But for an actual good cause.”

All proceeds from Saturday’s softball game will benefit Shriners Hospital for Children and the Central City Boxing Youth Program.
