Baystate celebrates Nurses Week with award reception

Recognition for key nurses in western Massachusetts Wednesday evening.

Baystate Medical Center continued its week-long celebration of Nurses Week with an award reception at its education center in Holyoke.

Noberto Durate, a critical care nurse, was honored with the Sharon A. Smith Compassionate Caregiver Award for his exceptional interactions with patients.

Wednesday night’s award presentation and social event featured several guest speakers, a buffet dinner and even a photo booth for guests to enjoy.

Christine Klucznik, a chief nursing officer at Baystate Medical Center, told 22News, “Nurses nominate each other for these awards based on certain criteria. It really brings us together as a community in a discipline to really recognize those that have gone above and beyond and done something special.”

There are nearly 3.6 million registered nurses in the United States, making it the nation’s largest healthcare profession.
