A Service of Remembrance was held for local families that have experienced the loss of a child this past year.
Baystate Children’s Hospital in Springfield hosted the annual remembrance service. Readings, music and a ceremony of light were held to bring families together who have experienced a tragic loss.
Families were also given a piece of fabric to personalize in memory of their child and with the fabric, the hospital created a memory quilt to honor the children who have passed.
The hospital’s pediatric chaplain told 22News the service lets families know they are not alone.
“Anytime a child dies, the world is a lesser place I think and so what we here at Baystate want to do is let these families know that we care for them and that we remember how important their children are,” said Marianne Maccullagh.
The staff of the Children’s Hospital also attended the service, to remember and pay tribute to the children and families that were once in their care.
