You’ve heard of regional school districts but there’s a chance one local community could soon have a regional police department.

The towns of Blandford and Chester held a joint select board meeting Monday night to discuss the possibility of combining their police departments.

Discussions are still in the preliminary stages.

“It looks like a lot of towns are having similar issues that we are having,” said Cara Letendre, Blandford select board chair. “So the discussion of merging different shared services came up and one of them that came up is police services and Chester had the same concern so we ended up meeting with them and we’re gonna go forward and see whether or not we decide to merge.”

The towns will meet again next month to continue discussions.
