Ludlow police are investigating the discovery of a body found in the woods near Whitney Park Thursday morning.
Ludlow police Lt. Daniel Valadas told 22News two men found the body of a middle-aged man around 11:30 a.m., in a large wooded area directly north of and adjacent to Whitney Park.
The wooded area is a town-owned property. When police arrived, they located the man’s body at a short distance from the baseball field fence line on the north side of the park. Lt. Valadas said the area the body was discovered was secured and treated as an unattended suicidal death.
The man’s identity will be confirmed by the medical examiner’s office.
Lt. Valadas said police are still investigating how the man died but said there is no threat to the public. The unattended death continues to be under investigation by the Ludlow Police Detective Bureau and State Police detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office.
The man’s body was found not far from the Thompson Memorial Pool inside Whitney Park. The pool was closed for the day while police investigated the unattended death.
The incident posed no threat to the public, authorities say.
