Bullet fired through window of Morgan School in Holyoke

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Families of Morgan School students in Holyoke were notified that a bullet was found inside a classroom on Thursday.

Holyoke Public Schools Director of Communications Judy Taylor told 22News at some point after school on Wednesday, a shot was fired through one of the classroom windows.

Taylor said the bullet was found Thursday morning when school staff got to work. The finding was immediately reported to Holyoke police.

The police department sent extra officers to the school on Thursday to ensure the safety of students and staff.

In response to the incident, the school is taking the following steps over the next few days to ensure safety of students and staff:

  • Increased amount of police officers at the school
  • No outdoor recess for school or Connections program
  • Indoor entry and dismissal waiting areas

Holyoke Police Lt. Jim Albert told 22News they believe the incident happened after dark on Wednesday. Anyone who thinks they may have seen something or may have helpful surveillance video is asked to call the Holyoke Police Department at 413-536-6431.

There will be a community meeting on Monday to allow families to meet with Holyoke officials to discuss safety measures at the school. It will be held at Morgan Cafe from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
