Burning scheduled to remove invasive weeds at Westover

Hampden County

If you see some smoke coming from the area of Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee on Friday there is no reason to be alarmed.

Sgt. Andrew Biscoe of the 439th Airlift Wing told 22News that a planned burn of up to 200 acres of grasslands is planned between 11:30 and 3:30 Friday afternoon. This land includes airfield areas in the interior of the base.

The burn is being conducted to get rid of invasive weeds and other problem plants.  Whether the burn goes on as scheduled will depend on wind conditions.
