Business destroyed by fire on East Street in Chicopee

Hampden County

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A portion of East Street continues to be blocked off after firefighters put out a fire Friday evening.

Officer Mike Wilk of the Chicopee Police Department told 22News, firefighters responded to a structure fire at 105 East Street around 4:30 p.m. The fire destroyed a three-story antiques store in Chicopee.

Firefighters spent more than two hours trying to put out the fire in the Victorian home-turned business.

When our 22News crew got there, there were flames shooting out from the roof and side of the building.

Firefighters were spraying water on the flames from all sides; from street level and from a platform above the building.

The building belongs to T&L Pre-owned Furniture and Antiques. According to a Chicopee Fire Dispatcher, the store owner was inside of the building when the fire started, but made it out safely. No one was injured.

Firefighters and trucks from Westover Air Reserve Base aided the Chicopee Fire Department.
