Car caught fire near Exit 3 on-ramp of 391 south in Chicopee

Hampden County

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A car caught on fire right outside our Chicopee station early Friday evening.

Chicopee Police directed traffic in the area while fire crews worked to put the car fire out. Reports about a car fire came into our newsroom shortly after 5:30 p.m.

The car fire was across the street from our station, near the on-ramp of Exit 3 on 391.

Chicopee Firefighter John Skaza told 22News the driver told them that other drivers were signaling him about the fire as he was driving home from work on Route 116, around 5:20 p.m.

He got out of the van and flames were shooting out from under the hood. No one was hurt and no word on how the fire started.
