People across the country will be having people over to celebrate the new year Monday night.

22News went to the Big Y supermarket on Cooley Street in Springfield, where shoppers were busy picking up groceries for their new year’s eve parties.

Assistant Store Director Brian Coelho told 22News some of the most popular foods shoppers are buying are chicken wings and pizza.

“I’m definitely going to go with the extra large Lobster Tails. I have a few of them waiting for me when I get out of work, so I’m excited about that,” said Coelho.

Shopper Ed Pezanetti told 22News, his New Year’s Eve plans include, “Assortment of food, the sandwiches, Salamis, cheeses, crackers things like that, maybe some alcohol for the midnight toast.”

Most customers preparing for a New Year’s Eve party were picking up food for a small gathering with family and a few close friends.
