Central City Boxing and Barbell in Springfield receives $10K donation for new building

Hampden County

A local boxing gym received a $10,000 donation Wednesday afternoon.

Central City Boxing and Barbell in Springfield received the check Wednesday at their gym on Belmont Avenue.

The donation is to help save the youth boxing program and kick off the gym’s fundraising drive to raise money to buy their new building on Tyler Street.

The director told 22News why this youth program is so important to the children in the city.

“Our main purpose here is youth development,” said Dean Fay. “Our second purpose here is boxing. And with the youth development, we’re trying to teach these kids the trades they’re going to need to be successful in life.”

The donation was made by Chris Mitchem, the CEO of Diem Cannabis.
