Change in Holyoke pre-school absence policy receiving negative feedback

Hampden County

Parents are upset about a proposed policy on child absences in Holyoke pre-school.

Holyoke Public Schools notified parents last week that pre-schoolers who miss seven or more days will be withdrawn from the program.

A copy of the letter was posted on the “Hello Holyoke Community Forum” Facebook page.

It was sent out December 10 and states, in part, “…we will formally withdraw a student from our preschool program who has been absent more than seven days.”

Holyoke Superintendent Stephen Zrike told 22News there was so much negative feedback that he wanted to make revisions, and will talk about a revised policy on Wednesday.
