Serve the kids in Chicopee is what brought state and local leaders together Thursday morning at the Chicopee Boys and Girls club.
The mission of the organization is is to enable all young people who need it most so that they can reach their full potential as well-rounded citizens.
Because of the work the club does locally, Thursday they were awarded more than $40,000 in funding for the upcoming fiscal year. Funds will also support clubs in Springfield and Ludlow
The Executive Director at the Boys and Girls club in Chicopee told 22News these funds will be used to support their operating costs so that they can grow their program.
Currently the club serves about 150 children each day in Chicopee.
“The support from the state continues to be humbling for us,’ Executive Director Jason Reed said. “They really believe in our mission and helping us to support the kids in their communities.
This money helps us support our educational programs, our arts programs, athletics programs it really assists us in many ways.”
In addition to these funds, the club was also awarded a grant from the playground designer Kaboom, which is providing a brand new play area at the center in Chicopee.
“Part of the grant is community involvement, so they look at the strength of community partners like the boys and girls club,” said Senator Eric Lesser. “I”ve got two little kids of my own, I know how important play grounds are, this is just gonna add to the program.”
Children at the club also got the chance to help design the space, which is set to be built next week.
