Chicopee gas station raising money for Lauren Meizo and her family

22News has been following transplant recipient Lauren Meizo’s fight to regain her health.

The 27-year-old Chicopee woman is recovering at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston following Thursday’s heart and kidney transplants, her second heart transplant.

Family friends like Chicopee service station owner Bob Johnson are helping Lauren’s family cope with the enormous medical bills.

At Bob’s Citgo service station on Grattan Street, he’s designated a special pump where five cents of every gallon sold for the next eight weeks will help Lauren’s family pay the medical bills. He hopes this gesture will raise at least several thousand dollars.

“I couldn’t think of a better cause to help someone through this tough time. I can’t imagine what the expenses are for them, Lauren being in the hospital four months before the transplant,” said Bob.
Lauren’s mom has written a book detailing her daughter’s medical ordeal.

Bob Johnson hopes to raise thousands of dollars showing compassion as they fill up at his service station.
